Reaching the goal

00:12

Reaching the goal means having a barbecue. That's something I started in our very first quarter in Portugal.

00:21

Obviously here, going back to the previous topic,I can't have a barbecue with all teams, since sadly, we're not all together, but I do make an effort to bring people together and do something different.

00:35

But I believe the barbecue thing is really about giving people a reward, apart from the usual reward, because, after all,we all go to work every day, we have goals,we have our own personal goals: we want to grow,we want to hit our targets, earn more, grow organically in other companies...

01:04

But let's be honest, we spend a lot of time working.

01:07

I mean, we spend more time with our colleagues than maybe with the people we love most, our kids, our families, our partners,or even our dog, or our cat.

01:21

That's why these moments should be moments where, if possible,we have a group of friends, who respect and value each other,in our work environment, that just makes everything better.

01:34

And I think that clearly shows in how people work, because that dynamic and enthusiasm we share with colleagues,we know we won't be close friends with everyone, that's fine, but we should be like a group of friends while we're there, those eight hours.

01:52

And that's what the barbecues unlock. It helps the dynamic a lot,I think people bond around one more purpose, even a small one,but one that means that, when they talk about the company, and about their experience working at Bolt,it becomes value proposition, too.

02:14

And it's a value proposition because, when we hire new people, they come in and they'll talk about the barbecue.

02:21

Meaning, it's definitely something people look forward to.

02:26

That's why I think there are many ways to have a barbecue, and lots of other things we can do instead of a barbecue, but I truly believe it's our duty,it's also the company's duty, the leaders' duty, of those who have influence,to bring things that go beyond the usual,as that's what fuels us.

02:52

I've been working in multinationals for 22 years, and I honestly remember every single moment, and really, those small wins and those little moments last longer than others that were probably much more important for my career,I don't recall those, this bonds us more.

03:13

This makes people stay longer in companies,it makes people feel and build affection for the company, since companies are just people, though in Bolt's case, values are really present:"act like the owner", "challenge meaning well","no corporate bullshit"...

03:36

All those company values I believe must be present and practized every single day,and I think these small things make it easier for people to do so,to identify more and do it with greater energy, since they are the company's main ambassadors.

03:59

Beyond sells, in my case, they sell the product to their families, they sell the company, and I think that also helps us recruit the best talent.because talent is everywhere, but the most talented people will go where they're truly happy, and that happiness comes from the company culture. That's it.
