Starting from scratch
"From manual work to airlines:why is working in each sector like starting from scratch?" That's pretty much my professional story,my focus has always been on the role itself.
I love my job, I love what I do, I've enjoyed it from day one.
I've never focused too much on the business side.I started in consultancy, then in brand charts, radio and TV,and now in airlines. And each time, it felt like starting over.
It's the same when you change companies, even in the same field.
Then you face a different culture, organization, team and management, along with new policies and procedures.
Switching sectors completely means starting from scratch, constantly questioning yourself, and stepping into it with an open mind and humility. I believe in wanting to learn,to give something, but also to grow.
Airlines are quite a unique sector,a very specialized field. It tends to work in its own way,but in a good sense.
They're rarely influenced by other sectors, with strong, focused unions and similar procedures.
For me, it felt like starting from scratch, especially with the people.
A team mostly from airlines, used to a certain way of working, not really seeking outside influence.
It's been about learning from each other, I've learnt a lot about their culture.
I hope they've also gained from experiences very different to mine, and very different from aviation itself.
But it's enriching, it pushes you to learn, which I think is essential, both personally and professionally, especially in Human Resources.
The point about communication is interesting. In a previous job, working closely with operators, we realised part of the company was out of the communication loop,we just couldn't reach them.
That's why it's so important, and something we do here too:making sure everyone's reached, because no communication is worse than bad news.
When there's a gap, people fill it with the wrong information.
I think it's important to use different tools to reach all staff, from frontline to management, and everyone in between.
That way, everyone can take part in the company's life.
Without the right information,I can't speak up, give feedback or take part.
The information that can be shared, not all, of course, should be accessible to everyone.
